My cool dad :)
My dad is the best dad in the world. He likes surfing a lot but he still has time for me. We have Nerf wars. He has been teaching me to surf but I'm not good at it. His hair is as brown as tree I like that he wears surfers clothes. He is funny as a monkey. He is really nice to me and awesome and cool. He can skate but at all we play Terraria and Minecraft. Some time he's good at football. He's been teaching me to swim. I'm really good at swimming. That's why my dad is the best. :)

Hi I'm Oliver & I'm here tell you some facts about Guy Fawkes!!!
- Guy Fawkes was a member of a group of English Catholics in 1605.
- This group mentioned above planned The Gunpowder Plot.
- Guy Fawkes & his group planned to murder King James I & restore a Catholic King/Queen to the throne.
- Fawkes was in charge of the gunpowder they collected & stored.
- Westminster Palace was searched during the early hours of 5 November 1605, they caught Fawkes red handed guarding the explosives.
- NZ & Britain celebrate Guy Fawkes on the 5th November every year with fireworks.

Riley is so, so silly. We fight, we play and we kick a ball. He is my brother. He is four. He lives in Thimble Lane with me. He likes watching Fireman Sam and the Dinosaur Train.
Riley is funny and he is also naughty sometimes. He is as cute as himself. He is so snuggly I could use him as a teddy bear in bed. He is thin.
Riley knows the oh ee oh a a ching ching wola wola bing bang and the moves. Together we play in our big, big, big 3 story garden. I boot up the ball and he tells me if it goes in the goal.
Riley is a good friend. He is the best, best, best, best AWESOMEST friend in the whole entire world. He is the friend I need. He is the best.

My Nana
My nana loves dogs. She has three because the forth one, Cooper, died. My nana's hair is very white and straight. She is very nice because when she comes down on Friday she brings two presents for me and Seb.
My nana loves chocolate cookies and so do her dogs. They eat ANYTHING! Their most favourite is a big big chicken wing yum yum.
Nana is allergic to quite a lot of things like dairy milk chocolate and potatoes. I love my nana. She lives in Palmerston. Her favourite thing to do is go to the dog show and walk the dog.

OLD MEDICINE
In the olden days there wasn't lots of silver paper. Keith was 3 years old and had one sibling who was his sister, Mona. Keith's Grandma sold packets of silver paper and he got a piece and he did a trick on Mona. He swapped hands and Mona got it wrong because she picked the other hand and didn't get it right. So she stomped off and then Keith had no one and nothing to play with.
Except the silver paper! He got bored after 1 minute so he stuck it up his nose and got it stationary! (Which means it got stuck.)
Finally he started crying. So Keith's family went to hospital but then they went back home because Keith complained because he didn't want an operation. He wouldn't go back except for a deal: 50 cents, new pj's, socks and shoes, and ride to the hospital on a shiny new bike at their neighbour's house
But the neighbor knew what to do!She poured black pepper down his nose and then he squeezed the pussy, infected, snotty silver paper out when he was sneezing.
He still got the deal for if he went to the hospital even though he didn't go to hospital, he still go the deal. It was unfair for Mona because she got nothing and her little brother got 50 cents, pj's, socks and shoes.
Mona thought "boys are always lucky."

Being A Good Friend By Rhys
Are you starting a new school? If you are don't be mean. Be a good friend. If you don't know how don't stress because I'm teaching you.
The first thing you do is to not hurt them. If you're playing a game of tag the number #1 rule is to not push or they won't like you.
The second thing you do is to share. If you have someone sitting beside you and don't have a pencil let them use it, be fair.
The final thing is to let them play because they would play with you that is called equality and fairness.

Tackle Rugby by Toby
I am Toby Brown. Do you want to know how to play tackle rugby? I can show you.
First you will need a team of 15, a mouth guard, a pair of rugby boots and know how to tackle. You can have head gear. Boots are good for lots of grip. The ball is an oval.
When you are passing spin the ball and aim where you are passing. Do short passing so the other team does not get the ball. Put your hands out to catch the ball.
You need speed to score a try. Get a try at the end of the field. You can dive. If you kick the ball, you can do a drop kick.

First I'll tell you this. You can only feed the kittens 1 cup of water and kitten food. Secondly they need lots of sleep otherwise they will die! After that you need to buy them toys. They need lots of toys to play with! (You also need to buy them a cat bowl). Finally they need a cage carrier, company, a dirt box and food and water otherwise they'll die!
How to Recover from a Operation by Jethro
Hi I'm Jethro and I'm going to teach you how to recover from a operation. First you wait for the nurse. When the nurse calls you get up and go. Then you walk down a hallway then you go in a room and you get into hospital PJS then take some medicine. It's a bit bitter. After that you go on a bed with wheels and then go into the operation room. You need to breathe though a hole then fall asleep. Then you wake. When you talk you're croaky. After that you get an iceblock. Finally you get to have a ride on a wheelchair. I had Foxy and I got a hospital lion.

Rippa Rugby! By Otis Rm 10
If you don't know what rippa rugby is then keep reading because I'm going to tell you.
The first step is to catch the ball. If you don't know how don't worry. You need your hards free.
Team work is important in rippa rugby because your team need to pass the ball not hog it, and know when people are open. Eye contact contact is good to know so you can pass the ball. You always need your hards free so they can pass to you.
Run in an open hole. If you see a hole go for it so you can score a goal. Throw to people who are ready. It's good for people to know you are passing.

Rugby is a winter sport. When you play rugby you have two teams who are trying to get the ball so they can get a try at the try line. You need to wear rugby boots, a mouth guard, shorts and a team t-shirt.
You need to pass close or someone in the other team could get the ball. You have to remember your position. If you get tackled try moving your way out and run to the try line and get a try. If you get a try you have to kick the conversion. A try is worth five points, a conversion is worth two and a penalty is worth three points.
A conversion is when you have to kick the ball through the posts. If someone in the other team is going to get a try you have to run up and tackle them and try to get the ball. To get a try you have to be fast so no one can catch you. A penalty is if someone tackles you and holds you down for too long. You do another kick off and see which team gets it.
If someone throws the ball to you, you have to keep an eye on the ball so you catch it. If someone passes the ball to you and you drop it in front of you thats called a knock on and you have to give it to the other team.
You need to do a scrum if there's a knock on. A scrum is when your team has to push against the other team to get the ball. This is how you tackle: you dive down to someone in the other teams legs and then they fall down and drop the ball. If they don't, try grab it out of their hands.

Term 2 in Year 3 and 4
Hi Everyone,
Welcome back to Term 2 in the Year 3 and 4 syndicate at Paremata School. We hope all the students are refreshed and invigorated for another term of learning. This post is to welcome students back and to let parents know any important dates and information for this term. All dates are also on the calendar page on the top menu bar.

- The Paremata School cross country is on Wednesday of Week 3. We'll be training most days until then so please make sure all footwear worn to school is good for running on the field in.
- We have trips planned for all classes to Carter Observatory in Week 6. This is linked to our Term 2 Inquiry. We'll send out permission slips shortly.
- There are video clues to the Term 2 Inquiry on a blog page in the top menu bar. Can you guess from the songs what our Inquiry may be about?

My dad is the sun shining down from space.
My mum is the sand getting warmed up from her loving husband.
My aunty is the blue sky next to her brother happily.
My cousin Nia is a turtle walking around the steaming hot beach.
My cousin Finn is a crab scuttling along the beach chasing his own sister.
Last but not least me, I am the sea ready to make a SPLASH!!

PENGUINS OF THE WORLD
Do you like penguins? Well I sure do.
Penguin females normally lay 1 egg but they have a rare which is 2. Penguins keep warm because they are warm blooded. Penguins are mostly seen at zoos like our zoos that we have in New Zealand.
Early Antarctica explorers thought that penguins were fish. There are over 2 million in the world. Most penguins lay eggs. There diet is: Krill fish and shrimp.
Penguins chicks don't weigh more than a bag of sugar, thats not lots either.
Penguins can't fly because their wings aren't big enough to support there body. There are approxamitly 18 speices in the history of penguins.
Most kids think that penguins live in Antarctica but they're all over the world. My favourite penguins is the Emperor penguin. Here's a picture of it.
That's an Emperor penguin that would be taller than you if you're small like I am well... maybe not the baby Emperors they might be a bit shorter.

Greenstone by Mika and Max
The Maori word for green stone is pounamu. Green stone is formed deep. Green stone is one of the hardest stones in the world. Green stone contains iron copper that makes the colour green. It is found in rivers and streams in New Zealand. Here are some of the places that green is found: In Nelson, Westland, Milford, Wanaka and Wakatipu. Green stone is not always green sometimes it could be yellow.

Room 10's Assembly by Caroline
On Friday of Week 7 at 12 o'clock Room 10 held an assembly for the Year 3 and 4 Syndicate. We have a Syndicate Assembly in Weeks 4, 7 and 10 to share and celebrate our learning. We also have Syndicate Singing Assemblies in Weeks 2, 5 and 8. In Weeks 3, 6 and 9 of each term we have schoolwide assemblies in the hall.
To prepare for the assembly the Room 10 students selected their assembly jobs and wrote their scripts so they knew what to say. Then they practised presenting. Presenting in front of an audience is really hard to do! Everyone had to remember to speak slowly and clearly and use a loud voice. It was hard to do this while trying to remember the words and look at the audience all at once!

Curiosity Killed The Cat - a made up story.
When I was two, my mum got a cat named June. He had grey fur and leafy green eyes. He always used to gently cuddle against me,sitting on my lap. One day he ran on the road and got ran over by a car! We took him to the vet and he lived but his leg had to get amputated [chopped off]. He lived happily with us until his 22nd birthday he became sick. We took him to the vet but it was too late. He was DEAD.

The Art Extravaganza
"Grab your sketch books, pencils and line up" said Mrs Haswell. "We can't go because we have no parent helpers yet." Suddenly they appeared around the corner. "Yay let's go. We're going to have some fun at Pataka"
At Pataka we sketched some things that were there, like the Chinese animal faces. We also saw the Blood Faces exhibition. There was also another breathtaking exhibition on how Whittakers chocolate was made.
We made a mirror out of rolled up magazines. We started from the corner and rolled it tightly around a paintbrush. We glued the end of the paper, took the paintbrush out and kept rolling. Then once we've got lots of them, we glued them onto a piece of round flat plywood.

My Robot Star Spy
My robot can spy and it can help. My robot like to fly and spy and make shadows. It doesn't like some other robots. My robot lives on all the planets like Mars. It like to play with some robots. It likes to eat water, grass, oil and milk. My robot's job is to spy. It likes me. I like Star Spy. She loves me.
I like to adventure with her but some times I can't go with her because she goes to different countries and goes to different planets. It is too dangerous for me. My robot is a cat.

The Queen of the Fire Kingdom and the Queen of the Water Kingdom.
Once upon a time in the Fire Kingdom a little baby was born. The baby grew into a mean Queen that ruled every bit of the Fire Kingdom. Not long after that mean Queen ruled a baby was born in the Snow and Water Kingdom. She grew into a nice Queen that ruled the Water and Snow Kingdom kindly!
When the Water and Snow Queen was watching TV she saw that the Fire Queen was killing some of her people! Then she flew to the Fire Kingdom to defend her people. She quickly grabbed her people and flew back to the Snow and Water Kingdom before it was too late.
The Fire Queen was happy because the Snow and Water Queen showed her how to be a nice Queen. Then the Fire Queen texted her saying, 'You have shown me how to be a good Queen." They became best friends.

Room 12 visiting Pataka
We are responsible for taking care of the air, the water and the earth.
We must look after our sandy beaches, rocky rock pools and muddy mudflats that are at our doorstep in and around Paremata.
We are big on taking care of the environment.
We are interested in how we can reduce and reuse waste materials and upcycle them into art.
That's why Room 12 went on a trip to Pataka to learn more about reduce, reuse and recycle, and what to do with all the waste materials we have on our planet.
We learnt that you can make:
- bunnies out of plastic bags
- symmetrical art flowers out of cardboard boxes
- bracelets out of old copper wiring that can be decorated with beads made out of paper
- rainbow coloured frames decorated with little bits of broken Kinder Surprise toys
- pencil holders out of plastic bottles
They all looked amazing!
Please look after our wonderful world. Don't throw all your rubbish away.
Be wise and REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE, UPCYCLE and REPURPOSE.
